Quietus Thoughts

Death has always been an interesting subject.

This blog is about both what happens after and, since we all will die eventually, what might be a good way to approach it.

And especially about what that can tell us about who we are and how to live a good life.

I know death is a difficult subject. Emotionally, and philosophically.

That's what makes it interesting to me.

We are all going to die.

We don't know when or how.

As I have got older my ideas of what it is and therefore of what life might be have changed a lot as a result of a variety of experiences and my ideas about them.

I have been a doctor, a psychiatrist, a Catholic, an Agnostic, a Buddhist and a scientist. I have not studied philosophy formally but it has been the undercurrent of my life.

My friends have started developing incurable physical issues and dying.

I am lucky enough to have lived long enough to enter the inevitable physical decline.

I have had cancer and an 'end of life' experience.

This subject is getting more interesting to me by the day.

I will be posting my thoughts, theories, experiences and questions here.

I would encourage you to join in the discussion in the comments if you are inspired to.

I want to know your perspective.

Ultimately this blog is about getting the most out of life, so the more ideas the better!

We're in this predicament together.

NB I am not going to be responding to comments in psychiatrist mode as I am now retired. This blog is not intended to be about therapy, assisted dying or suicide. If you need professional help you have my sympathy. I recommend that you find someone to help who is still working in that field.
